Water Intrusion and
Mold Investigations
Extremely Dangerous Mold
Mold is a common, fundamental organism that can grow anywhere there is
an organic food source and moisture. Molds are essential to recycling
the world’s organic matter and most are harmless. However, some types of
mold can be extremely dangerous to humans, especially if there is an
allergy or sensitivity to the mold itself or to the by-products created
by the fungi. Mold that is found indoors should be investigated to
verify that it is not consuming the building structure itself and verify
that it poses no danger to the buildings occupants.

Non-destructive Investigation
Our industrial hygienists and technicians have extensive training and
field experience in the visual identification of mold colonization. We
also use state of the art equipment such as the FLIR Thermal Imaging
Camera to perform a non-destructive investigation to determine the
location of moisture within the walls and ceilings of a structure.
Once
the moisture has been located we use a rigid boroscope to perform a
visual inspection of otherwise sealed cavities such as walls and hard
ceilings. Once the infestation has been found, air samples are taken to
determine the level of airborne contamination and samples of the mold
itself are taken and sent to the lab for processing.

Professional Detailed Reports
Information obtained during the survey is presented in a professional detailed report that includes extensive photographic documentation and professional AutoCAD drawings detailing the location of colonization. We also develop the abatement plan, provide contractor selection and oversight during the remediation phase.
Mold Remediation/Decontamination
Plans and Oversight
The Empirical Company's field staff can provide an effective plan for the remediation or decontamination of any size or type of building. Abating affected building materials, in conjunction with the corrective actions associated with moisture intrusion, is the goal in any mold abatement activity. The extent of removal, the engineering controls to be used, worker protection, and the cleanup procedures are strategies that must be developed, typically on a site-specific basis. The Empirical Company can assist in selecting a qualified mold remediation contractor experienced in the execution of the plan that has been developed. During the remediation process, trained specialists can monitor the project to help ensure safety, and that the project stays within budget and on schedule.
